This article is for admins turning the Nudger on across the organization. It covers choosing who it runs for, setting the timing and cadence of follow-ups, and confirming it works, plus the related settings: how Bonzai introduces itself and shifts.
The Nudger starts Off.
Who can do this: the account owner, the primary Admin, or a user they've granted Manage Bonzai who also has Manage Billing.
Where: Settings > Bonzai > Nudger. One setting covers every team in your organization.
Roll it out
Under Rollout, choose who the Nudger runs for, then click Save changes and confirm.
Optional: each teammate decides
Every teammate has the Nudger and switches it on for themselves.
Required: everyone
Everyone has the Nudger, including new hires, and nobody can switch it off.
Limited: only the people you pick
When you save Limited, the Who it runs for list appears below the rollout options:
- Search by name or email, or filter by team.
- Switch each person on.
In a multi-team organization every team is in this one list. A picked teammate can switch themselves off, but can't switch back on without being picked again.
Example: pick two or three teammates for a week, then switch to Required so everyone, including new hires, is covered.
Off: turn it off across your organization
Nobody has the Nudger and no follow-ups are sent.
- Under Rollout, choose Off.
- Click Save changes.
- Click Turn off and withdraw.
Any follow-ups in progress are withdrawn. If you turn the Nudger back on later, it starts again from each teammate's next message.
Choose how Bonzai introduces itself
The Nudger has its own How Bonzai introduces itself setting on this page. It starts at As you. See Choose how Bonzai introduces itself for what each option sounds like and how to rename your assistant.
Set the timing
- Drag First nudge to how long Bonzai waits before the first follow-up, anywhere from 2 min to 3 days.
- Set Follow-up nudges to how many follow-ups a conversation gets, from 1 to 10, counting the first. New organizations start at 5.
- Click Save changes.
Example: with 1 hour and 3, a text sent at 9 am with no reply gets its first follow-up at 10 am. Bonzai times the next two itself, at least an hour apart and shorter each time, and stops the moment the prospect replies.
Confirm it is working
- At the top of Settings > Bonzai > Nudger, the heading shows your rollout. Under Optional, Limited or Required it also reads Active for N of M teammates; under Off it reads Not following up with anyone yet.
- As a teammate the Nudger runs for, open one of your prospects. The Bonzai icon under the prospect's name shows Nudger follow-ups on.
- Once that teammate sends a text that goes unanswered, Bonzai checks in shows when the follow-up will go out.
Check shifts
Shifts are already set up: every user starts with Monday to Friday, 9 am to 5 pm, in their own timezone. Follow-ups only go out inside the prospect owner's shift and your organization's messaging window.
To check or change a shift, go to Settings > Account > Shifts. The messaging window is at Settings > Company > Company, under Automation messaging window.
Questions
Does it chase conversations that went quiet before we turned it on?
No, only messages sent after the Nudger is on.
Can we leave one person out under Required?
No. Switch to Limited and leave that person unpicked.
Where do I give someone Manage Bonzai?
- Multi-team organizations: Management > Users > ⋮ > Edit, under Permissions.
- Single-team organizations: Settings > Company > Users > Edit, under Permissions.
Only the account owner or the primary Admin can grant it.
What does it cost?
A follow-up by text is charged per text segment, an email follow-up costs 0 tokens, and Bonzai writing it is free. See What Bonzai costs.
