Messaging Configurations are the new home for everything that makes texting and calling work: your registered brand information and registration status, your carrier campaigns, the phone numbers attached to them, and the people who send from them.
Previously these details lived on each individual team. Now they live in one place, and a single configuration can serve many teams at once. This article covers how to find your configurations, read what's on the list, and assign people to them.
Where to Find Them
Go to Settings → Communication → Messaging Configurations.
You'll land on a list of every messaging configuration in your organization.
Reading the List
Each row is one messaging configuration.
| Column | What It Tells You |
|---|---|
| Name | The configuration's name. A pink DEFAULT tag means it's the default that new teams would be assigned to unless adjusted in the team set up process. |
| Brand / DBA | The registered business name, and the "doing business as" name if one is set. |
| EIN | The tax ID the brand is registered under. |
| Users | How many people send from this configuration. |
| Teams | How many teams it serves. |
| Texting status | Whether this configuration can send text messages. |
| Calling status | Whether outbound calls are verified for this configuration. |
Texting Status
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Active | Registered and sending. Nothing to do. |
| Campaign pending | Submitted to the carriers and waiting on their review. Texting isn't available yet. |
| Campaign expired | The carrier campaign lapsed and needs to be renewed. Contact support. |
| Brand rejected | The carriers declined the brand registration. The details need correcting and resubmitting. |
Calling Status
| Status | What It Means |
|---|---|
| Verified | Outbound calls display your verified caller identity. |
| Pending | Verification is in progress. |
| Rejected | Verification was declined and needs to be resubmitted. |
If you have a lot of configurations, use the per page selector at the bottom left to show more rows at once.
Creating a New Configuration
If this is the first configuration being created for your organization, you’ll see a red banner on your Bonzo home page directing you to complete the registration set up process.
Once you click it, it'll bring you directly to the Messaging Configuration section in your account settings to provide the brand information needed to complete the carrier registration process for you.
Complete each of the requested fields, use the guide below if you’re unsure what to put in any of the fields.
| Field | What it is | How to fill it out |
|---|---|---|
| Messaging Configuration | ||
| Name | A label for this messaging configuration | Give it a name you'll recognize later, like "Main Office" or your company name. This configuration becomes your organization's default. |
| Description | An optional note about the configuration | Briefly describe what this configuration is for, especially if you plan to run more than one. |
| Business Info | ||
| Full legal name | Your company's registered legal name | Enter the exact name on your business registration and tax documents. It must match your EIN records, so avoid abbreviations. |
| DBA name | Your "doing business as" name, if you operate under a different brand | If you’ll be referring to your business in messaging to consumers by a name different than your legal name make sure to include it here. If you don't have one, enter your legal name or leave it blank. |
| Type | Your business entity type | Select the option that matches your registration, such as LLC, Corporation, or Partnership. |
| Registration number (EIN) | Your federal Employer Identification Number | Enter your 9-digit EIN. This is the most common cause of rejected registrations, so verify it matches your IRS records exactly. If the verification is declined you may be requested to provide your businesses CP 575 that the EIN was issued to you on. |
| Vertical | Your industry category | Choose the category that best describes your business, such as real estate or financial services. |
| Employee count | The size of your company | Enter your approximate number of employees. |
| Address | ||
| Country | Country of your headquarters | Defaults to United States. |
| Street, City, State, Postal | Your company HQ address | Enter your official business address. Use the address on file with your business registration, not a home address or PO box if you can avoid it. |
| Authorized Representative | ||
| First name / Last name | The person carriers can contact if there's an issue with your registration | Use a real person at your company who can respond to questions, typically an owner, admin, or compliance contact. |
| Phone number | A direct number for that person | This is required to complete the registration. |
| A direct email for that person | Use a company email address on your business domain rather than a personal Gmail or Yahoo address. | |
| Job position | Their role at the company | Enter their title, such as Owner, Broker, or Operations Manager. |
| Calling Information | ||
| Calling use-case | The primary reason you make outbound calls | Select the option that best matches how your team uses the phone, such as customer follow-up or appointment scheduling. |
| Intended daily calls | Your expected outbound call volume | Give an honest estimate of calls per day across your team. |
| Additional use-case description | Extra context for reviewers | Describe in a sentence or two who you call and why, for example "We call existing clients and warm leads to schedule mortgage consultations." More detail here helps your registration get approved. |
What is Additional Vetting, and Do I Need It?
When creating a new messaging configuration you now have the option to request additional vetting from the start for a one time fee of $60 followed by an additional $10/month fee. Additional vetting is an optional third-party review of your brand that can raise your trust score with carriers. When you register a brand for A2P messaging, it is automatically assigned a trust score from 0 to 100 based on factors like the age of your business and your number of employees. Carriers use this score to decide how much messaging capacity to give you. Ordering additional vetting sends your brand to an independent reviewer who evaluates your business and can assign a higher score than the automatic one.
A higher score matters in two ways. On AT&T, it determines your message throughput, meaning how many messages you can send per minute. On T-Mobile, it determines your daily sending limit, meaning the total number of messages your brand can send each day across all campaigns. The table below shows how the tiers break down.
| Trust score | Tier | AT&T throughput | T-Mobile daily limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| 75 to 100 | Top | 4,500 SMS per minute | 200,000 messages per day |
| 50 to 74 | Upper mid | 2,400 SMS per minute | 40,000 messages per day |
| 25 to 49 | Lower mid | 240 SMS per minute | 10,000 messages per day |
| 0 to 24 (typical unvetted) | Low | 240 SMS per minute | 2,000 messages per day |
AT&T throughput applies per campaign, while T-Mobile's limit applies to your whole brand per day. Verizon does not use the trust score and applies its own per-number rate limits instead.
So do you need it? If you send low volumes, for example a small team sending a few hundred messages a day, your automatic score is usually enough. But if you plan to send thousands of messages per day, or your messages need to go out quickly, additional vetting is strongly recommended. Without it, an unvetted brand can hit T-Mobile's 2,000 message daily cap early in the day, and everything after that simply won't be delivered until the next day. The review costs $60 as a one-time fee and $10 per month thereafter to pay for the higher volume campaign. Once requested if a higher trust score is received it takes approximately two weeks for the new high volume campaign to be fully registered and ready for messaging.
Working With a Large Number of Configurations
If your organization is large, expect to see a lot of rows here — often hundreds.
That's expected, and it reflects how your account was already registered. Each of your teams was registered separately under its own brand and campaign by default. Every one of those registrations is now its own messaging configuration.
Two things make a long list manageable:
- Every configuration is named for the business it was registered to, followed by the business ID — for example, ABC Mortgage #142. Where several of your teams registered under similar business names, that business id is what tells them apart.
- The Users and Teams columns show you the size of each configuration at a glance, so you can tell an active one from a leftover with nobody on it.
Combining configurations that share an EIN is planned for a future release. For now, search and filters are the way to navigate.
Searching and Filtering
Search and filters are the fastest route to a specific configuration.
Search matches on configuration name, EIN, brand, or campaign ID. Type any of the four into the search box.
Filters are behind the filter icon at the right of the search bar. A small number appears on the icon when a filter is active.
| Filter | Use It To |
|---|---|
| Status | Show only configurations in one state — for example, everything currently rejected. |
| User | Find the configuration a specific person sends from. |
| Default for team | Show the configurations acting as a team's default. |
Tip: Searching by EIN is the quickest way to gather every configuration registered to the same legal entity.
What's Inside a Configuration?
Select any row to open it. The detail page has five tabs:
| Tab | What's There |
|---|---|
| Overview | Registration details, verification state, and phone health at a glance. |
| Brand | The registered legal entity — name, DBA, EIN, and contact details. |
| Campaigns | The registered messaging use-case under this brand. Campaigns are created automatically as you add numbers since any one campaign can only house up to 50 phone numbers. |
| Users | Everyone assigned to this configuration, and where you assign more. |
| Numbers | The phone numbers attached to this configuration. |

Understanding Default Configurations
There are two separate defaults. They sound alike but control different things, and it's worth knowing which one you're looking at.
| Default | What It Decides | Applies When |
|---|---|---|
| Organization default | Which configuration is pre-selected for a new team | You create a team |
| Team default | Which configuration is set as the default for a specific team, that a new user on that team will be assigned to by default | Someone is added to an existing team |
Organization Default — Where New Teams Land
Your organization has one default configuration. When you create a team, the Messaging Configuration field is pre-filled with it. You can change it right there during setup — the default is only a starting point, not a restriction.
You can change which messaging configuration is the default by opening the configuration you’d like to make the new default, checking the “Default configuration” check box, and clicking “Update.”
Team Default — Where New Users Land
Each team also has its own default. Anyone added to that team is assigned to it automatically, including people who join months later.
- This allows an admin to assign a team to the brand and EIN that their messaging should be associated with, and ensure all new users in that team in the future also get assigned to that correct brand.
- Assigning a whole team to a configuration makes that configuration the team's new default, so future hires land there too.
- Assigning an individual does not change the team default. The rest of the team, and anyone added later, stays where they are.
That last point is the one that catches people out. If you move a person individually and then a new hire joins their team, the new hire goes to the team's default — not to the configuration you moved their colleague to.
Assigning People to a Configuration
How you do this depends on whether the team already exists. The two paths behave differently, so they're worth treating separately.
Setting Up a New Team
When you create a team, you choose its messaging configuration as part of the setup — there's no second step.
- Go to Admin → Teams and select Add team.
- Fill in the team name and internal name.
- Under Messaging configuration, choose the configuration this team should send from.
- Complete the team owner details and select Create.
Every user on the team — then and later — is assigned to that configuration automatically.
Moving an Existing Team or User
If a user was sending from one brand registration for instance and they now work with a new team that sends messaging under a new brand, they may need to be moved from one messaging configuration to another. This ensures that the brand name referenced in their messaging aligns with carrier expectations, in how that messaging configuration was registered.
- Open the configuration you want to move them to.
- Go to the Users tab in that messaging configuration and select Assign users.
- Choose one:
- Individual users — moves only the people you pick. Their team's default would remain the same.
- Whole teams — moves everyone on the team and makes this the team's default, so new team members in the future would be assigned to this configuration automatically.
- Select Assign.
⚠️ Moving phone numbers interrupts texting. When a user or team is moved to a new messaging config their numbers move with them. Each number has to be re-registered with the carriers on its new configuration, and texting from it can be unavailable for a few hours while that happens. Plan moves for outside business hours.
While a move is in progress, the person shows as Transferring on the Users tab. Once the carriers confirm, they change to Assigned.
Managing Configurations From the Users and Teams Pages
You don't have to start from the Messaging Configurations list, this can also be configured from the Users or Teams list views in a Super User or Team Owner account.
From Manage Users
Admin → Users includes a Messaging config column, so you can see at a glance where each person sends from. Filter the list by Messaging config to see everyone on a given configuration.
To change one person: select the ⋮ menu on their row and choose Messaging configuration.
From Manage Teams
Admin → Teams also shows a Messaging config column. To change a team's configuration, select the ⋮ menu on its row and choose Messaging configuration.
Remember that changing a team's configuration changes it for everyone on that team, and sets the new default for anyone added later.
Frequently asked questions
Do numbers lose their verification when they move? No. Verification is held on the configuration, not the campaign, so numbers keep it when they move between campaigns.
Can Team Leads manage this? It depends on the account. A team lead owner has their own configuration and manages it directly, though they can't rename or delete it. A team lead inside an enterprise organization has read-only access — changes there need an Super User Admin. Team Members have read-only access in both cases.
Can I create a campaign myself? No. Campaigns are created automatically as your number count grows. You can delete an empty campaign, but there's no manual create step.
