The Conversations tab is where you manage all of your prospect communication in Bonzo. It brings your text messages, emails, voicemails, and call history together in one place so you can quickly see who you need to follow up with and pick up right where you left off.
Getting to Your Conversations
There are two ways to get to the Conversations tab.
From the Dashboard: Under "Latest Conversations," click on any conversation to jump straight into it. You can also hop between other conversations from the sidebar once you are inside.
From the Sidebar: Click on the "Messaging" dropdown in the left sidebar, then click "Conversations." This opens the full Conversations tab.
Your Conversation List
When you open the Conversations tab, you will see your conversations listed on the left side of the screen, with the most recent activity at the top. Each entry shows the prospect's name, a preview of the last message, and a timestamp.
Unread conversations are visually highlighted so they are easy to spot.
You can click the three vertical dots next to any contact's name in the list to quickly mark it as unread, Unread and notify, snooze it for later, mark as DNC or star it as a favorite.
Resizing the Conversation List
The conversation list can be widened to suit how you work. Drag the right edge of the list panel to make it wider — useful when you want to read more of each message preview without opening the conversation. Drag it back to give the message area more room. Your width preference is remembered.
Communication View
Once inside a conversation, the screen is divided into three main areas:
- Left panel — Your conversation list, sorted by most recent activity.
- Main area — A scrollable history of all messages and actions taken on the contact, including campaign assignments and pipeline changes.
- Right panel (Prospect Data) — A quick-edit view of the contact's record for tags, campaigns, pipelines, and loan contacts.
The top navigation bar shows basic contact info and lets you switch to additional views like "Details" and "Notes."
Filtering by Message Type
Click the arrow to the right of "Notes" to expand a collapsible sidebar. Select "SMS," "Email," or "Phone" to view only that message type.
When a filter is active:
- Only messages of that type appear in the conversation view
- You can only send messages of that type
To return to the full conversation history and all message options, click the "Conversation" tab.
Sending Messages
The message field at the bottom of the screen supports both SMS and email. Use the icons beneath the field to customize your message:
| Option | Details |
|---|---|
| Videos, GIFs, Emojis | Available for SMS and email |
| Bonzo Content Studio | Pull in design assets |
| Attachments | Available for SMS and email |
| Quick Replies | Insert saved messages from your Content Library |
| Email Signature | Email only |
To schedule a message, click the down arrow next to the send button and choose a date and time. You can also set whether the message sends as "Me" or "Owner" before sending.
Making Calls
Click the call icon in the top right to start a call without leaving the screen. Before the call connects, you can set up a pre-recorded voicemail and a backup text message to send if the contact doesn't answer. Click "Continue" to initiate the call.
After the call ends, select a disposition and choose whether to send your pre-recorded voicemail or pre-written text.
Notes and Team Mentions
Use the "Note" field to log anything relevant to the contact's record.
- Click "Summarize" to generate a bulleted summary of the conversation (tokens-based feature)
- Type "@" followed by a teammate's name to give them shared access to the contact and notify them
Prospect Data Panel
The right-hand panel lets you view and edit the contact's record without leaving the conversation. From here you can:
- Edit contact information
- Assign to a campaign or pipeline stage
- Add or manage tags
- Share with team members
- Add loan contacts (co-borrowers, buying agents, listing agents)
Note: Loan contacts must already exist in your database before they can be assigned. Buying agents must be marked as realtors — go to the People tab, open their record, click "+", and select "Mark as realtor." For listing agents, enable the "Listing agent as realtor role" toggle in the Company tab.
Choosing a View
Before you start filtering, you may want to choose which set of conversations you are looking at. That is what Views are for.
If you have already created saved views in the People tab (for example, a list of prospects assigned to you, or prospects in a specific campaign), those same views are available here in the Conversations tab.
To choose a view:
- Click the view selector at the top of the Conversations tab.
- Select the view you want to use. Your conversation list updates immediately to show only prospects in that group.
To set a default view so it loads automatically every time you open the Conversations tab:
- Open the view selector.
- Select a view, then mark it as "Default."
- Your default view name will be displayed at the top of the tab so you always know which view is active.
Your filters work on top of the view you select. Choosing a view sets the group of prospects you are looking at, and any filters you turn on then narrow that group further — without changing or overriding the view itself.
Filtering Your Conversations
Filters help you zero in on the conversations that need your attention right now. They work like on/off switches — tap one to turn it on, tap it again to turn it off. Results update instantly.
The quick filters available are:
- Unread — Only shows conversations you have not read yet
- Awaiting Reply — Only shows conversations where the prospect has not responded to you after being engaged in conversation
- Needs Reply — Only shows conversations where the prospect's message is waiting on a response from you
- Snoozed — Only shows conversations you have snoozed for later
- Starred — Only shows conversations you have marked as favorites
A few things to know about how filters behave:
- You can turn on more than one filter at a time. For example, turning on both "Unread" and "Starred" shows only conversations that are both unread and starred.
- Opted-out and Do Not Contact (DNC) prospects are hidden from your list by default. You do not need to filter them out yourself. To see these, click into the "advanced filters".
- The first time you open the Conversations tab, it loads with a sensible starting point: conversations that need a reply, opted-out contacts hidden, and the list scoped to prospects assigned or shared to you. You can change any of this at any time, or save your own setup as the new default (see below).
Advanced Filters
If you need to narrow things down further, click the filter icon in the filter bar to access advanced filters:
- Team Members — See only conversations belonging to a specific person on your team
- Exclude opt-outs — See only conversations where the prospect has not opted out of communication
Saving Your Default Filters
Once you have a combination of filters you like, you can save it so it loads automatically every time you open the Conversations tab — no need to set it up again each session.
Inside the advanced filters, you will find two controls:
- Save as default — Saves your current filter setup (both quick filters and advanced filters) as your personal default. The next time you open the Conversations tab, your saved setup loads automatically. You will see a brief confirmation when it saves. Saving your default filters does not change the view you have selected — your view and your filters are saved separately.
- Reset — Returns your filters to Bonzo's standard starting point for the current session. This is handy when you have layered on a lot of filters and want a clean slate. Resetting does not erase the default you saved — it just clears things for now.
To remove all active filters entirely, use Clear. Where Reset returns you to the standard starting point, Clear empties every filter so you are looking at your full list for the selected view.
Your filter setup stays in place if you refresh the page. If you navigate away and come back, the tab returns to your default.
Searching for a Conversation
The search field sits at the top of your conversation list. Type a prospect's name to instantly filter the list as you type. This is the quickest way to find a specific conversation without scrolling.
Starting a Conversation
To start a conversation with a prospect:
- Click the "+" icon next to the search field at the top of the Conversations tab.
- In the "Create New Conversation" modal that appears, type a prospect's name or phone number into the search field.
- If the prospect exists in your database, they will appear in a dropdown. Click their name to select them. They will appear as a chip (a small tag) inside the field.
- If the phone number does not match anyone in your database, you will see an option to add that number as an "Unknown Prospect." Click it to add them.
- Click "Start Conversation."
Your conversation is created immediately and appears at the top of your list. The prospect record is only created when you click "Start Conversation," not when you type in the number.
Hiding the Filter Panel
If you prefer more room for your conversation list, you can collapse the entire filter area by clicking the small arrow control beneath the filters. This hides the views, filters, and advanced filters, but keeps the search field and "+" button visible so you can still search and start conversations.
Your preference is remembered for the rest of your session, even if you navigate away and come back.
Visibility
When you send a one-to-one SMS message and it fails to deliver, Bonzo makes that carrier or prospect failure visible so it does not get missed.
Message delivery can fail for a number of reasons — for example, if the recipient's carrier blocks the message, the recipient marks your number as spam, or the carrier otherwise rejects the message. When this happens, Bonzo receives a failure response from the carrier.
What You'll See
The affected conversation is automatically bumped to the top of your Conversations tab. A small red alert icon appears on the conversation, indicating it needs attention. This ensures failed messages don't get buried and can be addressed quickly.
Clearing the Alert
When you click into the conversation, the alert indicator is cleared. The message failure notice is no longer displayed repeatedly on that conversation.
Summary
The Conversations tab is your home base for all prospect communication in Bonzo. Choose a view to focus on the right group of prospects, use filters to surface the conversations that need attention, and search to find anyone by name. Starting a conversation takes a few clicks, and you can collapse the filter panel any time you want a cleaner workspace.
