When a carrier blocks a text, Bonzai re-words the text with best practices and attempts to deliver the new version on your behalf.
That leads to more responses from leads who would otherwise have been stuck in a send error. Texts Bonzai writes are delivered at rates as high as 99.5%.
Availability: organizations with Bonzai. Rewriting is off until an admin turns it on.
Who can turn it on: the account owner, the primary Admin, or a user with Manage Bonzai.
Turn on rewriting
- Go to Settings > Bonzai > Messaging.
- Under What may be rewritten, choose which texts Bonzai may re-word.
- Set Attempts per message, 1 to 3 (2 by default).
- Click Save changes.
- Bonzai messages: Texts Bonzai wrote, such as Nudger follow-ups
- Bonzai and automated: Also campaign steps and pipeline events
- Everything, including direct: Also texts your team types by hand
Note: broadcasts and email are never rewritten.
What a rewrite looks like
- You type: Hi {first name}, quick update on your application. Grab a time on my calendar here: {short link} - FREE consult, act now!
- Bonzai sends: Hi {first name}, quick update on your application. Reply here to set up a time to talk.
Bonzai only removes things, like links and offers. Bonzai never adds anything, never changes your campaign template, and keeps opt-out wording.
When Bonzai doesn't rewrite
- The prospect opted out, replied, or someone texted them since.
- It is outside 8 am to 8 pm for the prospect, or outside your messaging window.
- No safe rewrite exists, or every attempt is blocked too.
If a carrier blocked a text you typed and Bonzai gives up, you get a notification.
Cost
Rewriting is free. Each re-worded text is charged per text segment, including texts you typed by hand.

Turn rewriting off
