Organizing and reviewing your data before importing it into Bonzo is key to quickly starting conversations, engaging with contacts, and growing your business. A well-structured spreadsheet ensures accurate field mapping, minimizes errors, and reduces the need for manual adjustments later. Follow these best practices to streamline your import process and set your data up for success.
Best Practices for Spreadsheet Organization
-
Use Bonzo’s Standard Fields
Before importing, check Bonzo’s default fields to see if your data can be mapped directly. You can review a Sample CSV that contains all of Bonzo's fields here. Below are two "Golden CSV" examples that represent the ideal format for your data before import, ensuring optimal organization and ease of action. -
Separate Data into Individual Columns
Ensure that each piece of information (e.g., first name, last name, email, phone number, etc.) has its own column. This helps Bonzo auto-map data during the import process. -
Include an Email or Phone Number for Every Contact
Since Bonzo is a communication-first platform, each contact must have at least one method of contact (email or phone number). Any record without either will not be imported. -
Organize Additional Contact Data in Separate Columns
Fields like customer IDs, labels, or other identifiers should each have their own column. During the mapping process, these can be assigned to fields such as Tags. -
Create Custom Fields When Needed
If your spreadsheet contains unique data that doesn’t fit into Bonzo’s default fields, create Custom Fields in the "Company" tab before importing. This ensures that no important information is lost. To learn more about this process, click here.
Note: Custom Fields & Views permissions are set by Top-Level Users (SuperUsers and Team Leads). If you can't create Fields and Views, please contact your team admin. -
Save Your File in a Compatible Format
Bonzo supports file types including CSV, TSV, XLS, XLSX, XML, vCard, and ODS. Ensure your file is saved in one of these formats before uploading. -
Double-Check Data After Importing
Once your data is imported, review it in Bonzo to confirm accuracy. Navigate to the “People” tab, select a contact, and check their "Details" tab. Any necessary edits can be made manually.
Why Organized Data Matters
Taking the time to clean and format your data before importing ensures a smooth transition into Bonzo. Well-structured data improves efficiency and helps you quickly start engaging with your contacts. By following these best practices, you set yourself up for success, allowing you to fully leverage Bonzo’s features without unnecessary troubleshooting.
